Distraction

Allen Wynn’s archetypal sculptures celebrate the female figure and call up personal associations from all who see them. These figures represent any person, anywhere in the world, because the artist has freed them from extraneous detail and has stated their meaning in the simplest terms. A self-taught artist, Wynn has taken his impressions from childhood memories through recent experience and has interpreted them in a universal language.

New Basin Canal Mooring

Louis Oscar Griffith (1875-1956), learned plein air painting in Texas from Frank Reaugh. A trip to Paris introduced him to the art of Cézanne, which modified his more conservative impressionist style. He was a leading exponent of the Impressionist style. He was hired to decorate the new opulent St. Charles Hotel; and his paintings not only infused the old landmarks with grace, color and light, but did much to secure the popularity of this painting style in the city. The exhibit runs April 4-30.
